Second Time Around

Second Time Around

I am in disbelief that you kept your promise.

Three years ago, you said you wouldn’t let me slip

through your fingers again, you said you wouldn’t let our

fights permeate into the foundation of our relationship

(like it did the first time).

You said you loved me, you always loved

me and you knew we were meant for each

other; you’d do anything to keep our

love from falling apart

(like it did the first time).

You said you never thought you

Would get me back, you never

thought you’d we’d get a second chance;

our young love didn’t have to end

(like it did the first time).

Three years ago, I didn’t fathom how strongly you

meant every word, or each and every day you would

prove to me the sheer honesty in your words.

You kept your promise

  1. Ash,
Strong poem. I like the repeat of (like it did the first time) and the ending with “Second Time Around”

    Peace,

    Stephen
